Coach handbags are worth the money

Growing up my mother didn’t have a lot of purses. In fact she had three distinct purses. Maybe more, but three stick out in my memory. One was red, with a long skinny strap. The strap was so long, I loved to run around with it across my shoulders. Another was a classic shape, small and black with a shoulder strap and gold buckles. The last one was a big navy blue, almost a briefcase size bag. This was the carry-all that came on every trip and seemed to be bottomless. It carried everything. All three purses were Coach purses, and I envyed them while growing up. I loved the smells, the smoothness of the leather, and the beautiful makeup of each bag. At the time I didn’t know it, but I loved the classic Coach feel of each and every bag.

Now the real reason why Coach handbags are worth the money, they’re timeless, classic, and maintain their integrity over the years. Since I have grown up, I have purchased three of my own Coach purses, and I can’t wait to buy another. My first was a present to myself after my first raise at my first job out of college. That was six years ago, and I still get compliments when I carry that purse. I have heard stories of people walking into the Coach store and having an associate say  »this isn’t wearing well, let’s get you a replacement ». And thought it hasn’t happened to me, I don’t think it’s an urban legend.

When you’re buying a Coach handbag, you’re spending the money on the quality of fabric, leather and hardware. You’re spending money on the craftsmanship of each stitch and each tooth on the zipper. You’re investing in a handbag that will hold it shape, it’s style and it’s integrity for years to come. You’ll always be proud to carry a Coach bag and know that it was money well spent.

I wouldn’t suggest spending the money on a trendy handbag made by Coach, unless you have more money then me. Instead, take the time to research the style, the size, the colors that are most important to you and will remain a classic part of your wardrobe. Moulton.

To the majority of women who MUST have a Coach handbag, all I can ask is this:  »Why would you buy a bag that costs more than the money you are going to be carrying IN it? »

In today’s modern society, we are awash in images that tell us how we need to look – including the clothes we should wear and the accessories that we should use. Many women feel they have a need – and a right, for some reason – to be dressed and accessorized just like the latest hot starlet in Hollywood. My take on this issue is that, unless you ARE a Hollywood star, perhaps you should stop trying to PRETEND you are. It used to be that stars had a higher standard of living because they earned a far higher wage and could afford the  »finer » things in life. With the explosion of ill-managed credit in the hands of the general populace, anyone can live the Good Life – and pay for it later (maybe) or just file for bankruptcy. You get to keep your stuff – and the 7 year penalty of no access to credit seems to be a small price to pay in the minds of some people. At least they got their stuff and can make some sort of (errant) impression on others!

And these impressions we make on each other are OH so important. NOT.

The thing is, I don’t care if that bag is made from the skins of exotic creatures raised by hand by Australian Aborigines, and sewn by hand by Tibetan Monks while chanting mantras for my continued long life and prosperity. It is still just a BAG. I have a leather purse with fine stitching, for which I paid less than $10 at a local superstore two years ago. I love it. And I loved the price. I do not have such a self-esteem issue that I need a purse with a certain large badge on it to prove my worth to the world. I don’t need people to say,  »OOOhhh. look at HER! She must be a person of HIGH CALIBER to have such a magnificent handbag! » What I need is a bag to carry all my stuff so that I may function in my life.

Isn’t that the reason the bag was invented in the first place?!

For the retail price of a Coach bag, a person could probably create seeming prosperity for an entire village of starving people in Africa. For the retail price of a Coach bag, someone could donate a significant amount Ralph Lauren Big Pony Polos towards disaster relief. For the retail price of a Coach bag, one could pay a month’s worth of medical insurance, Cheap Ralph Lauren Polo a car payment, half a month’s rent on a modest place to live. You could save a homeless person’s life with the cost of a Coach bag. You could adopt a half dozen homeless animals from a local shelter, you could buy supplies for an entire classroom of kids, you could buy groceries for a couple of weeks for a family of five. Three hundred dollars is a nice start for a bank account for your kids, a new wardrobe for school, a repair on the car.

Three hundred dollars has saved MY life more than once.

Though Coach bags are nice, to be sure, they are not some product that so outshines ALL the rest so as to make it worth its price. Maybe if it performed functions like balancing your checkbook for you or delivering a shock to you when you were getting ready to spend an exorbitant amount of money on a completely unnecessary item – THEN it might be worth somewhere near its market value. MAYBE.
